What to Do With The Christmas Cards?

After Christmas every year, I take down the Christmas cards and look at the beautiful pictures of all of our family and friends.  Then I wonder what I should do with them and feel guilty when they end up in the trash.  No more guilt this year!
I searched {Pinterest} for ideas, and created a mix of my own.  I wanted to keep it short and simple, so I used a chicken ring to collect all of the cards on.  I don't know what the technical term is for them, but they are the rings that open and latch back together.  They are usually found in the office supply section.  Each card got a hole punch in the corner, and then I threaded them on the ring.  I made a card out of scrap card stock to add the year.
I took it a little further and included many cards throughout the year.  Birth and wedding announcements and special cards from birthdays and holidays seemed to be a great addition to the Christmas cards.
Now we can flip through each year to see how our friends and families have grown and changed.  I also made sure to include our Christmas card at the very end so that we can compare them from year to year.
What do you do with your holiday cards?

I hope everyone has a happy and healthy new year!  I look forward to sharing more of our projects and strategies for saving with you.

  3. I do something similar, but make mine into more of a book using 2 of the book rings. I then tie it with a pretty ribbon and add a tag with the year on it. I only do the Christmas, letters and photos that we always get, but then I toss these on a table during the holidays to become part of the current year's decor. Everyone loves opening them up and looking back at the sentiments & photos. I used to use bits and parts of them in my scrapbook albums on my Christmas pages, but I really like this newer idea better.

  4. I really like your idea, Erin!
For many years, I have kept the photo cards and other special cards in a photo album set aside for Christmas cards.

  6. That's a great idea! What I usually do is simply keep them in a drawer and cut parts of them for little gift cards and gift tags. Although some don't work well for that, many do. It seems much better than simply throwing them out. So now I have two ideas. Thanks!

  7. That's a fun way to enjoy your cards all year long! I have some ideas for making small gift boxes from cards:

  9. Unless its a photo card from close friends or family, I just toss them! This is a good ide! You can pull them out from year to year to see how things change and people grow!

    1. I still toss those! (Unless it has a special message in it) The pictures are my favorite part, and seeing the changes is exactly why I want to keep them. Thanks for stopping by! ~Erin
