This is probably one of my biggest accomplishments yet! I found an old dresser at Goodwill for $15 (originally $30, but we were there for their 50% off day) and decided to buy it with the intention of turning it into a tv stand. It needed a lot of tlc!

The first thing I did was take the tacky gold accent strips off of the front. Some might like them, but it's not my style!
I then sanded everything down. The top was a laminate, so I made sure to go over that a few extra times.
I removed the back and bottom panels to allow more circulation for all of the electrical components that I knew would be stored in it. The bottom was already half-way off, so it was just a matter of pulling out some staples.
The sides of the dresser also had some dings, which I filled in with wood putty.
I then gave everything a nice coat of black paint. It's amazing what a coat of paint will do!
My favorite part of this project was coming up with the idea to add "feet" to the bottom. I found them in the counter section of Home Depot. I couldn't believe how much character that gave the dresser.
Eventually, I want to make one of the drawers fold down for the VCR. I'll get there eventually! Right now, I'm just enjoying my new TV stand in our great room.

i love this even more b/c it's on legs now! awesome! i have the piece to do this, but i have never gotten around to actually doing it. i'm super scared, lol.
ReplyDeleteI was scared to begin with, but it was really easy. I should have mentioned that we used a nail gun to add the feet. You might have to get creative with the installation depending upon the design of the dresser.
DeleteYour new TV stand looks fantastic, Erin!
